My husband’s story- new wife demanded new husband to start a new venture – a commercial glass company

The year was 2011 and two type A folks decided to get married, creating the foundation for a large, expanding, family and the dream of creating a successful family business. At that time Pete had twenty years of experience in the glass business and Jennifer had six years in the fashion industry.

Of course experience beat out a really cool industry for the launch of a family business and Jennifer eventually exchanged stilettos for work boots, hand bags for tape measures and Reliant Contract Glass became our baby.

While Pete was doing all the things an entrepreneur does when launching a commercial glass company and performing all the roles of a glass contractor – Estimator, PM, value engineer, HR manager, salesman, driver and shop associate, Jennifer was hired by Google as the Risk Manager responsible for (of all things…..) global construction.

The experience at Google prepared Jennifer to support Reliant in additional ways, with very little overlap to Pete’s skill and so began the 24 / 7 togetherness

With five children, we are bound to have a few with a desire to work in construction. Tyler started at Reliant at the age of eighteen, working in the shop and learning about fabrication and glass from the ground up.

Ten years of experience later he is estimating, managing projects, supporting marketing and safety efforts and some administrative duties. A couple of the other kids have floated in and out between college semesters and one is at U of Iowa with career plans in construction.
